The first Canadian Parrot Symposium was held in 1990 in Toronto by organizers Jacquie Blackburn and Silvio Mattachione. After 13 years of hard work and devotion, they decided it was time to pass on their legacy to other keen volunteers. The Canadian Parrot Symposium name was granted to the western Canadian Parrot Symposium. The eastern symposium changed their name to the Canadian Parrot Conference.
Since 2005 the Canadian Parrot Conference has raised over $55,000 for the following parrot charities:
- Parrots International
- PDD Research (Dr. Ritchie)
- Avian (Parrots) Disease Research, Ontario Veterinary College
- The Alex Foundation
- Loro Parque
- The World Parrot Trust
- The American Federation of Aviculture (AFA)
- The Gabriel Foundation
